Khorgos Gateway reinforces its role as a high-performance China–Eurasia rail hub

For Azurite Logistics, Khorgos Gateway is a critical control point rather than a simple border crossing. Performance at this node directly influences schedule stability, asset utilization, and predictability across China–Central Asia–Europe rail corridors.

In 2025, Khorgos handled more than 372,000 TEU, a 2% increase compared to the previous year. While volume growth was moderate, the structural shift was operational. The commissioning of ten new broad-gauge tracks and intelligent infrastructure upgrades reduced average container transshipment time from five hours to one hour, materially improving gauge-change efficiency.

For the wider Eurasian rail market, this signals a clear transition. Corridor competitiveness is increasingly defined by execution quality at interchange hubs rather than nominal throughput. Faster transshipment lowers dwell risk, stabilizes train schedules, and improves rolling stock circulation across networks.

Azurite integrates Khorgos into its cross-border rail operations as a core interchange node. Shorter handling windows enable tighter train planning, more reliable border sequencing, and improved synchronization between Chinese and 1,520 mm networks translating infrastructure readiness into operational control.

Azurite’s transformation: building the structure for the next stage of growth Azurite is strengthening its organisational structure to build a more integrated, intelligent, and scalable logistics platform for Eurasian trade corridors.

The company’s strategic priorities now include the development of a Logistics Control Tower for key customers, a group-wide intelligent transportation platform, a stronger operational presence in China, expanded multimodal capabilities in Türkiye, and further east- and westbound corridor development through Europe.
