AI on the rails: what Kazakhstan’s digital rail upgrade means for multimodal logistics
Kazakhstan’s railway system is entering a new phase of digital transformation — and the impact on regional logistics is already tangible.
In 2025, Kazakhstan Railways \(KTZ\) reported:
• 22,000 km of rail network monitored by AI-driven smart diagnostics, enabling defect forecasting up to 87 days ahead
• 3,000 km of automated corridors focused on capacity growth
A single digital wagon management platform, reducing empty mileage and improving asset utilization of real-time rolling stock diagnostics via Wabtec Kinetix, without stopping trains.
These upgrades supported a record 319.8 million tons of freight, including:
+20% transit growth
+7.1% exports
35.4 million tons moved toward China, up 10.5% year-on-year
For Azurite Logistics, these changes matter at a practical level. Faster planning cycles, reduced congestion risks, and higher throughput directly improve the reliability of multimodal routes combining rail, road, and Caspian Sea transport.
As rail systems move from reactive to predictive, multimodal logistics gains the stability required to connect markets at scale — from China through Central Asia to Europe.
